I had a conversation with a client recently about why is it that people are no longer allowed to be inquisitive about topics they need more information on, before accepting someone else’s knowledge, opinions & ideas as truths without greater understanding. When & why has it stopped being ok to ask questions & further examine something that you need more understanding of with a topic you can’t seem to grasp, without it being perceived as offensive.
I have always felt that when someone has something to protect or hid ( good, bad or indifferent) it usually has something to do with not wanting to expose a bigger deeper truth. I was raised by a narcissistic parent which gave me an insight as an adult on why questions were often perceived as a form of a personal assignation & threat that challenged her character, authoritarian ideologies & grandiose personality. This made getting a proper answer quite difficult at times, often being manipulated & gaslighted in order to steer me in different directions.
Now a days the general public is expected to accept everything that is being televised & overlapped by all the media channels, becoming scrutinized for wanting to further investigate any kind of information for themselves. Our “news” has dramatically changed over the last 20 years, making it almost impossible to gain solid information from outlets who’s agendas have become more powerful than the journalists that are in the trenches accuratley trying to report the news itself. There are a lot of really bad people who are made to look really good & then there are really genuinely good people who are purposely made to look & appear bad.
Something feels very scripted in the world right now, using need to know “evidence” to back up its contradictions like a narcissist continuously pitting people against people in the fight for the absolute truth. Then I ask my self the question, what is or would be that absolute truth when we subtract money & power from the equation. Sometimes I feel like I am living in a reality show with the news media intentionally feeding us their manuscript with all the social media accounts interacting as the grandest stage as we play the characters to its series.
Sometimes we unknowingly hand over the ability to decide for ourself & blindly become complacent with allowing other people to decide for us no questions asked. I once spent 8 years in a narcissistic marriage with a man who was a bona fide salesman, making the majority of the decisions for me as a form of his own lack of control. I was easily lead to believe because of my own dysfunctional upbringing, that this was his way of “taking care of me” & his expression of love. In my moments of emotional sobriety I would question his authority & decisions while being met with retaliation of anger & venom.
This is a common tactic used to spin someone in circles to confuse & lead them away from the original question. Truthfully I spent years afraid & scared of this man becoming frozen in a state of panic, especially when he would use the kids as another form of control. It never dawned on me that I had handed over my own personal power of beliefs to someone in the end that never share the same morals, values & virtues. It wasn’t until I broke away that I began to see the damage I co created by not asking the important questions from the get go again & again & again.
I think a lot of times people stop asking the things that are important to them because they believe they are just one voice in the world of many. I know for me personally coming to the table with plenty of personal experiences but no diplomas or certifications to support my wisdom, I felt at times my knowledge won’t hold court to someone with a higher degree. I also feel we accept these titles as a form of power without questioning the credentials that are hung on the wall, accepting mediocre disguised as greatness. Just look at all the people now a days following people who are placed on a pedestal decorated purposely to play this part.
Do your due diligence & continue to ask the important questions that are needed for your growth as a human being here on Earth. Pay attention to what is around you in a way that allows you to see the truth between the blurred lines, especially in this day & age where everything is modified, altered & made to be artificial. The social experiment of todays world still needs us as critical thinkers to continue to ask the hard questions most people are too afraid to hear, which is where in my opinion the truth begins.
